Why the cheapest pump isn't always the best choice
A station five cents cheaper per litre sounds appealing. But if it sits ten kilometres off your route, you burn part of that gain getting there. So Tankmapper does not go by price per litre alone: we add the fuel your detour costs, check how many litres actually fit in your tank, and compare that with the first suitable station you would have used without planning. What remains is a net saving in euros — with the extra travel time listed separately, so you decide whether it is worth it.
Your refuelling advice in four steps
- Enter your start and destination, or use 'My location' for the starting point.
- Pick your vehicle: a Dutch licence plate, or make and model for Belgium, Germany and France.
- Set the fuel-gauge slider to your current level, or enter the estimated range from your on-board computer.
- Read the advice: which station, how many litres, what it costs and what you save.
Refuelling across the border
The gap between the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and France is often larger than the gap between two stations in the same town, because excise duty and VAT differ per country. Heading for a border, Tankmapper compares the countries along your route and shows whether driving on or filling up earlier works out cheaper — including the kilometres it takes.
How reliable are the prices?
Pump prices come from a public station feed covering the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and France. Each recommendation shows when Tankmapper fetched the prices. This is not the measurement time at the pump: the source provides no measurement time per station, so freshness is uncertain. Prices may change before you arrive. Implausible prices are filtered out; missing prices are shown as unknown rather than estimated.
