How current are the pump prices?
Pump prices come from a public station feed covering the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and France. Each recommendation shows when Tankmapper fetched the prices. This is not the measurement time at the pump: the source provides no measurement time per station, so freshness is uncertain. Prices may change before you arrive. Implausible prices are filtered out; missing prices are shown as unknown rather than estimated.
Is refuelling in Germany or Luxembourg always cheaper?
No. The difference depends on the fuel, station and time. Tankmapper compares the countries along your route and subtracts the fuel used on the detour from your saving. Since 1 April 2026, public filling stations in Germany may raise petrol and diesel prices only once per calendar day, at 12:00 noon German local time. Reductions are allowed at any time and as often as desired. The old advice that evenings are usually cheaper is therefore no longer a reliable rule of thumb. Compare available pump prices shortly before departure; the lowest price is not guaranteed before noon either.
How much detour is a lower price per litre worth?
It depends on the litres you buy and your consumption. Ten cents per litre on a 50 litre fill is €5; a 15 km detour there and back already burns over 2 litres at 15 km/l. Tankmapper does that arithmetic and reports the net saving, with extra travel time shown separately.
Do I need an account?
No, your first recommendation needs no account. A free account stores one car and a couple of addresses; Premium stores more, removes ads and adds e-mail price alerts for fixed routes.
Does the licence-plate lookup work outside the Netherlands?
Automatic lookup uses the open Dutch vehicle register. For Belgium, Germany and France you pick make, model and fuel variant from the catalogue, because no comparable open source is available there.
What if I don't know how many litres are left in my tank?
Use the fuel-gauge slider and set it to what your dashboard shows. If your on-board computer gives an estimated range, you can enter that instead.
Why does the app sometimes advise a partial fill?
On longer trips it can pay to buy just enough to reach a cheaper country or a cheaper station further on. The planner works out per stop how many litres fit and how many you need for the next leg.
What does Premium cost and can I cancel?
Premium is €1.99 per month or €14.99 per year, cancellable at any time through the customer portal. Payments are processed securely by Stripe; our 30-day refund policy applies.
